Yucca Extravaganza
This 14.5" x 40" piece in encaustic mixed media is a celebration of color and texture, with a textured background journeying from serene blues through vibrant reds, pinks, and yellows, finally reaching lush greens. At the heart of it is a unique interpretation of a yucca plant, crafted from white fabric dipped in beeswax and embellished with copper splashes and glass elements for a touch of floral elegance. My inspiration came from a desire to experiment with portraying the yucca amidst various sky hues. This piece also incorporates special green paper and the encaustic accreation technique, alongside india ink and oil stick, to create a lively narrative.
Ocotillo Ar COpper Tower
This 14" x 40" encaustic mixed media artwork is a vibrant blend of colors and textures. Inspired by a copper structure from Globe, AZ that I came upon at The Tucson Gem Show, this piece features a dynamic composition of blues, reds, yellows, and oranges. A central vertical element made of copper rises amid plant-like forms, with touches of red evoking Ocotillo foliage. Using encaustic accreation, I've crafted an abstract sky that adds depth and texture, inviting you to explore every detail. This artwork was a fascinating journey of creativity for me, and I hope it captivates you with its energy and warmth just as it has captivated me during its creation.
Nocturnal Bloom
Encaustic Mixed
This 18 by 18-inch work centers on a luminous full moon, layered in transparent shades of yellow, gold, silver, and pearl white, casting its glow over dark silhouetted cacti-like branches. The night sky is a rich blend of blues, purples, and magentas, scattered with stars created from a mix of painted dots and embedded rhinestones—details that reveal themselves best in person. At the bottom, textured abstract forms with hints of blue and green are enhanced by agate stones, grounding the composition with subtle depth.
The idea grew from a black-and-white photo of a full moon framed by cacti, which I reimagined using beeswax and layered colors to capture a quiet, mystical atmosphere. The process was especially rewarding, combining traditional encaustic techniques with unexpected materials to bring the scene to life. I hope this piece invites you to experience that peaceful moment where moonlight and nature meet.
Pulse of the Sky and Starry Light 14" x 34"
this work captures a vibrant night sky filled with swirling stars, a bright yellow moon, and dynamic cloud-like formations that dance across a deep blue and purple backdrop. A comet streaks through the upper right, adding a sense of motion that contrasts with the grounded, textured earth below.
In the lower section, dark, plant-like shapes rise beside stone arches, framed with three-dimensional wax elements and accented by lapis lazuli gemstones that bring depth to the mountains. I also used varying sizes of rhinestones to make the stars pop against the dark sky, which gives the piece a subtle shimmer you really have to see in person to appreciate.
This work invites you into a mystical space where the cosmos and the earth meet, blending movement and stillness in a way that felt both challenging and rewarding to create.
